TCSD #1 MCER Study Moves Forward

During the Wyoming Schools Facilities Commission (SFC) meetings in Lusk, Wyoming this week, Teton County School District #1 was approved to participate in a Most Cost Effective Remedy Study (MCER) to address secondary capacity issues.

 

TCSD Offers Summer Meal Program

Teton County School District #1 is offering the Summer Food Service Program or SFSP to children in the community. The program offers free meals to any child 18 years and under. The program will run Monday through Thursday beginning on June 26th and ending August 16th.  We will be closed July 4th and 5th for the Independence Day Holiday. The program includes breakfast from 8:00 am to 9:00 am and lunch from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. The meals are provided at Colter Elementary School located at 1855 High School Road and Teton County Library.

Fab Lab Summer Camps

Students will engage in STEAM activities through both hands on “making” as well as through technology.  Registration details found at http://www.jhhsfablab.com/summer-fablab-camps/ and the EventBrite links will “Go Live” at 8am on June 11th.  Registration closes June 18th at 5pm for sessions 1 and 2 and closes June 25th at 5pm for sessions 3 and 4.

 

TCSD Bus 33 Involved in Minor Traffic Collision

On Monday, June 4th TCSD bus #33 was involved in a minor traffic collision this morning. No students were injured and have been transported to school. There was minor damage to the school bus as well as the other vehicle involed in the collision.  The district is following its accident protocols and is working with law enforcement as part of the accident investigation.   

Colter Elementary Supports Habitat for Humanity

Each year Colter Elementary has a fundraiser. This year the students leaders wanted to donate to a charity within our local community. They voted to support Habitat for Humanity, an amazing local non-profit that helps build affordable homes for those in need. This amazing group has provided homes for many of our students, past and present. Today CES student leaders presented Habitat for Humanity with a check for $1,202 to support local efforts to provide affordable homes to families in our community.

UPDATED: TCSD Board of Trustees Consider 2018-2019 Bus Routes

UPDATE:  During their special meeting on May 15th the Board of Trustees considered the proposed changes to the 2018-2019 bus routes. The board voted to continue the discussion to their policy meeting which is scheduled for May 30th at 12:00 noon.

The continuation will allow administration time to explore creative solutions for activity bus service from JES to Snow King, Center for the Arts, and St John's Hospital. No changes are being proposed for the CES or WES activity bus. An activity bus will be offered from MMES next year as well.

Road Construction to Delay Buses on May 10th

TCSD is anticipating transportation delays Thursday, May 10th due to construction at the Y Intersection.

Munger Mountain Elementary School Incoming Kindergarten Parent Information Night

MMES Incoming Kindergarten Parent Night. Tuesday, April 24th, 6-7p.m. at Colter Elementary School.  This is a make-up session for parents who missed the information night in March.

Attendance at an information night is mandatory for all families new to the dual immersion program who are interested in enrolling their child in Munger Mountain Elementary. 

TCSD Flags at Half-Staff

Governor Matthew H. Mead, pursuant to President Donald Trump's Proclamation, has ordered both the U.S. and State of Wyoming flag be flown at half-staff statewide immediately through sunset Saturday, April 21, 2018 in honor of First Lady Barbara Bush.

JHHS Students Show Off Passion Projects

On Tuesday, May 1 from 6-8pm, 23 seniors from Jackson Hole High School will set up booths in the commons to show off the results of the self-directed educational journeys they embarked on seven months ago. Showcase Night for the Senior Capstone course will feature a variety of personal creations ranging from art installations, books, architecture, media productions, and businesses; all products resulting from a deep exploration of educational topics, social issues, design problems, and personal interests. The event is open to the public and community members are encouraged to attend to learn more about these students’ projects and see the results of their work first-hand.

 

TCSD #1 Students Head to Washington D.C. for National History Day

Jackson Hole High School and Jackson Hole Middle School students had a good showing at the Wyoming National History Day competition in Laramie earlier this week.  

 

 

TCSD joins with Chamber and Workforce Services to Offer Youth Career Expo

Teton County School District #1, Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce, and the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services Jackson Workforce Center is holding an exciting and interactive Youth Career Expo on Wednesday April 25, 2018 from 1:50 PM to 3:50 PM at Jackson Hole High School.  Many businesses, nonprofits, and speakers have already committed to be part of this year’s expo but we still have spots available.

An Update from Superintendent Chapman

Happy spring!  Before students and staff depart for the much anticipated two week spring break, I wanted to provide a brief update on district news.

 

UPDATED: JHMS on 2 Hour Delayed Start

12:00 Noon:

Jackson, WY- March 14, 2018-  A two hour delayed start was implemented today at Jackson Hole Middle School due to a bomb threat received overnight by district staff.

The incident was managed jointly by Teton County School District, Jackson Police Department and the Teton County Sheriff’s Office.  Over 25 officers and personnel from the Jackson Police Department, Teton County Sheriff’s Office, Teton County Bomb Squad, and Lander Police Department and K-9 bomb unit, TCSD personnel and support from Grand Teton National Park were involved.  

Law enforcement, including a K-9 unit, swept the school and student backpacks.  No devices were found, and classes resumed shortly after 11:15 am and remain on schedule for the rest of the day.  

All other TCSD schools remain on normal schedules.  An active investigation into the threat is still underway.

Student safety is our highest priority and TCSD appreciates the support of all responding agencies and the patience of students, parents, community members and staff.  

This will be the last update regarding this incident.

8th Grade Open House @ JHHS 8th grade night

The Jackson Hole High School 8th Grade Open House is  scheduled for Thursday, March 8, 6:00-8:00 p.m. Attendance is required for students and parents. Light appetizers will be provided by the JHHS Culinary Arts program.

On January 23rd David Williams, Department of Botany Department Head/Professor of Botany and Chip Kobulnicky, Professor of Physics and Astronomy were joined by Ella, a UW junior to talk to JHHS students about the UW Science Initiative and student experiences and opportunities at the university.

TCSD Hosts Whole Child Whole Teacher Conference for Staff

On Tuesday, January 2nd, while students enjoyed their last day of winter break, teachers were back at work and attending the first annual Whole Child Whole Teacher conference.

On Tuesday we were made aware of a potential threat via social media.  In an abundance of caution and in consultation with local law enforcement, we kept all students in buildings who attend CES, JHMS, JHHS, SHS while this issue was investigated.

The enrollment period for the optional device insurance for middle school and high school students will re-open November 6-10, 2017 for parents to purchase optional insurance to cover damage to student devices (iPads or laptop computers).
