Welcome back to Wilson School! I have been so excited to start teaching your children, and now that things are starting to settle down I wanted to take the opportunity to formally introduce myself.
This is my fourteenth year as a classroom teacher, and I am looking forward to another terrific experience. I moved here in June of 2003, and have been working with children since the day I arrived. Before coming here I attended the University of Vermont where I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Education. After graduating I worked for Sylvan Learning Center outside of Boston, then I worked for KinderCare Learning Center outside of Philadelphia. Upon arriving here I taught the Summer Program for five year olds at the Community Children’s Project. After finishing that program, I worked as a reading paraprofessional for grades 1-5 at Jackson and Colter Elementary Schools. I am so happy to have the opportunity to continue my teaching here in Wilson. I have taught at Wilson Elementary School since the Fall of 2003. I became a National Board Certified Teacher in November 2014. You have been so supportive, and I appreciate how much you care about your child and their learning process.
As a class we are going to be busy learning new things right away, and there will be lots of communication home about everything going on in the second grade. Please make sure to check with your child every night to see if they have brought home any sort of homework or notices. Their Independent Reading Logs should stay in their homework folders and be filled out every night they read. There will be math homeworks to complete throughout the week as well. Please make sure your child returns with his/her homework folder every day. Also, please look for “The Bell Ringer” (newsletter from Mrs. Milburn) and on Fridays the “2nd Grade News” via email/Seesaw. If you need these in print please let me know. These letters help us all keep in touch with what is going on in the school and classroom. Thanks for all of your cooperation!
