In TCSD1, being MULTILINGUAL means a student is developing academic proficiency in English as well as in a second language or home language.
For native English speakers, it means they are learning Spanish, French, (or another language) alongside their ongoing development in English. For native Spanish speakers, this means they are learning English while maintaining and growing their Spanish skills.
Both groups benefit from opportunities to become bilingual and biliterate through programs like Dual Language Immersion, where instruction is provided in both English and Spanish. Additionally, some students—regardless of their first language—may also benefit from the English Language Development (ELD) program, which provides targeted support to help them build academic English skills and succeed across all subject areas.
The goal is for all students—regardless of their first language—to become confident users of more than one language, capable of high academic achievement, and prepared to thrive in a diverse, global community
The sister city relationship between Tlaxcala, Mexico, and Jackson Hole, Wyoming, celebrates the strong cultural and community ties shared between our two regions. This partnership enriches our schools by fostering cultural exchange, understanding, and respect among students, families, and educators. In TCSD, the influence of this connection is seen in our commitment to multilingual education, asset-based approaches, and a welcoming environment for all. Our programs support both native Spanish and native English speakers, encouraging bilingualism, biliteracy, and cross-cultural competence. Through this relationship, we aim to prepare students to thrive in a diverse, interconnected world and honor the unique contributions of every member of our community.
