9-23-19 newsletter

Hello everyone,

First of all, I would like to say a big THANK YOU to Krista Mixter, Laurie Harris, Pam Coleman, Heather Park, Nadia Stephens, Chris Prince, Nathan Gray and Bobby Shriver for chaperoning at TSS last week. I sure do appreciate your help! Hopefully, the kids were able to get some quality sleep over the weekend. While TSS is always fun, it is exhausting, too!

This week, we will jump right back into things. We will be WYTOPP testing on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week and Tuesday of next week. Each of these testing sessions will begin at about 9:20, so please be sure your child is on time for school and that they have eaten a healthy breakfast. It really does help!  In math we will be working with prime and composite numbers, an approach that is called the "Over Strategy," and we will begin to work on various long multiplication strategies, beginning with Partial Products. Any work you can do with your child so that they have a solid grasp of their multiplication and division math facts would be very helpful.   We will begin Word Study this week. I handed out the "Parent Cheat Sheet" on bright pink paper at Open House (or sent it home with your child if you couldn't make it that night.) Your child also has one in their word study notebook. Each night there will be a bit of homework for you to help your child with. We will usually have a written test on Fridays.  We should be able to finish reading The One and Only Ivan by the end of the week and then we will do a bit of non-fiction reading about the REAL Ivan who lived at Zoo Atlanta.

I found out over the weekend that we will not be able to reschedule our river trip. Mother Nature just didn't want to cooperate this year.
