12-9-19 newsletter

Hello,

With hockey in full swing and the start of the ski season, I am definitely noticing that the kids are more tired than they have been. Please help your child get as much rest as possible during the busy winter season.

In math this week we will work with decimal and fraction equivalencies. In ELA/Social Studies, our reading of Blood on the River and our study of the settling of Jamestown is going well. Be sure to ask your child to tell you what is happening in the book!  We will have an assessment on Jamestown on Wednesday and a geography test on Thursday. We will have a word study test on Friday as usual.

For the past few years, I have given the kids a "kindness calendar" just before the holidays. I am attaching a copy for you to see. This is not required, but just something they can follow if they would like.

*****Your child will be bringing home a green slip of paper today regarding the annual 5th-grade student luncheon that will be held on Friday, December 20th. Thanks in advance for your support of an event that has been going on for at least 37 years!  If you do not want to provide what your child volunteered for, please just write a similar item on the green sheet and have them return it to me. As you prepare your item for the luncheon, please provide enough for 19 people, remember to put your name on everything and PLEASE send serving utensils. You may send your item with your child in the morning. If you choose to bring the item later, please have it to school no later than 11:30 a.m.

Upcoming Events:

Friday December 13th: Dancers Workshop Winter Performance Leave at 12:00, return at 2:00. We will eat in our room at 11:30 this day. Please have your child bring a non-microwaveable lunch!! If your child will be purchasing lunch from the cafeteria, a sack lunch will be provided and I need to know on Thursday morning who will need this option. Thanks.

Friday December 20th: Annual 5th Grade Luncheon

Holiday Break begins at 2:56 p.m.

Take Care,

Nancy
